Taking to Twitter, Raab said, "We need to be patient and wait and see who wins the US election. Important the process is given sufficient time to reach a conclusion. We have full confidence in the checks and balances of the US system to produce a result."

He further said that the UK-US relationship is "in great shape and we are confident it will go from strength to strength whichever candidate wins the election".

"Across trade, security, intelligence, defence, innovation and culture, no two countries do more together," he added.

The US presidential election has turned into a nail-biting battle as Democratic candidate Joe Biden is ahead of US President Donald Trump in Electoral College votes, having 227 votes to the Republican incumbent's 213.

While Biden needs 43 votes more to clinch the White House, President Trump needs to secure 57 more to win a second term as Commander-in-Chief.

Some 239 million people were eligible to vote this year. The mail-in ballots could take days to be counted, which would delay declaration of results. (ANI)

Addressing his supporters from the East Room in the White House, Trump said, "We want voting to stop."

Voting has closed in the US and all eyes are on the vote counting to decide the race for the White House between incumbent President Trump and his rival, veteran Democrat Joe Biden.

Democratic presidential nominee Biden has garnered a lead of 220 electoral votes against Trump's 213 votes in the US presidential polls, according to current projections by CNN on Wednesday.

To win the presidency, either Trump or Biden must acquire over 50 per cent of the electoral college vote, which is 538 in total. Therefore, each candidate must get a minimum of 270 electoral votes to clinch the presidency.

Biden is projected to win Washington, Oregon, California, Illinois, New Hampshire and New Mexico.

California has one of the biggest shares in the Electoral College, with 55 votes, while Illinois also has a significant contribution with 20.

Biden is also projected to win Colorado, Connecticut, Vermont, Delaware, Washington, DC, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.

New Delhi [India], November 4 (ANI): The United States and India have a strong relationship, and it will not be affected in "any significant manner" by either Trump getting re-elected or Biden winning the Presidential election, Gopalan Balachandran, the ex-Director, Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses and uncle of Democrats Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris, said here on Wednesday.

Talking to ANI, Gopalan presented his views on the US elections, saying he expects former vice president Biden to win the election, adding that the state of Florida holds significance in this election because if incumbent Donald Trump loses it he will lose the election.

"I expect Biden to get through. Florida's important because if Trump loses it he'll have to say goodbye. But it won't matter to Biden as he can win from other states," G Balachandran said.

Reacting on the remarks of Biden who said if he gets elected he would not differentiate between the Democrat and Republican states, Balachandran said: "The US is in very critical position today. Odisha bans sale, use of firecrackers from November 10-30

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], November 4 (ANI): Considering the potentially harmful consequences of burning of crackers amid the Covid-l9 pandemic situation and approaching winter, the Government of Odisha has prohibited the sale and use of firecrackers from November 10 to 30 in the public interest.

"In some parts of our country and in the world, where Covid-19 appropriate behaviours have not been strictly adhered to, the resurgence of Covid-19 infection has been witnessed. A number of countries across the world have been compelled to reimpose the lockdowns and other extreme measures to contain the resurgence and further spread of the disease. The international experience shows that the coming winter season may see the further spread of the pandemic," Odisha government said.

"It is generally observed that elderly persons, children, persons with comorbidities and others develop respiratory problems during winter. Further, air pollution, a higher concentration of Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) in the air aggravates respiratory problems," it added.

Odisha government further said: "It is a well-known fact that burning firecrackers releases copious amounts of harmful chemicals like nitrous oxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc, which have a severe impact on the respiratory health of vulnerable groups. Such pollutants can further aggravate the health conditions of Covid-19 positive persons besides persons staying in home isolation."

The state government further said that it has prohibited sale and use of firecrackers during the aforementioned period in public interest. It further said that Deepavali, the festival of lights, may be celebrated in the traditional way by lighting of earthen lamps (Mati Deepa/Diya), candles and other traditional lighting materials. "The Editors Guild of India is shocked to learn about the arrest of Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV, in the early hours of Wednesday by the Police. Goswami was arrested from his Mumbai residence on reportedly an abetment to suicide case. We condemn the sudden arrest and find it extremely distressing," the Editors Guild of India's statement said.

"The Guild calls upon the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to ensure that Goswami is treated fairly and state power is not used against critical reporting by the media," it said.

Goswami was detained by Mumbai Police on Wednesday and alleged that he along with his mother-in-law, father-in-law, son and wife have been physically assaulted. Mumbai Police entered Goswami's residence today and allegedly physically assaulted his family members and him.

General MM Naravane to gift medical aid to Nepal during his 3-day visit

Kathmandu [Nepal], November 4 (ANI): Army Chief General MM Naravane will gift medical equipment and medicines to Nepali Army during his three-day visit, an official said.

General Naravane, who is expected to arrive in capital Kathmandu on Wednesday afternoon on the invitation of his Nepali Counterpart Purna Chandra Thapa, will hand over the medical aid during a closed indoor ceremony on Thursday.

"Aid includes different kinds of medicines and other medical equipment. With the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal, these medical aids are specially meant for them. It is the continued gesture and commitment of Government of India to help neighboring countries to fight the pandemic," a senior official from the Indian Mission in Nepal told ANI.

The aid will be handed over during the close-in-door-ceremony held in Nepal Army Headquarters on Thursday morning, the official confirmed.

General Naravane would be accorded the rank of honorary General of the Nepali Army by Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari during the ceremony on Thursdayafternoon.

General Naravane also will pay homage at the Martyr's Memorial in the Army Pavilion, receiving a guard of honor in Army Headquarters and also hold meetings with his Nepali Counterpart Purna Chandra Thapa.

The Indian Army chief is also set to address student officers at the Army Command and Staff College, Shivapuri. He will also call on Nepali Prime Minister as well as incumbent Defense Minister KP Sharma Oli during the visit.

Conferring the highest rank to the chiefs of each other's militaries is a tradition that has been followed by Nepal and India since 1950 after then Indian Army chief General KM Cariappa visited Nepal.

Ahead of his visit, General Naravane said that his visit to Nepal will go a long way in strengthening the "bonds and friendships" that the armies of the two countries cherish.

The two cases were registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including provocation with intent to cause riots, defamation, statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy.

On June 30, the Bombay High Court stayed two FIRs registered against Goswami.

The Supreme Court, on October 26, adjourned for two weeks the hearing on an appeal filed by the Maharashtra government challenging the Bombay High Court order, which stayed the investigation against Arnab Goswami in connection with his alleged comments on his show over the Palghar lynching case.
