2020 'toughest year' of chancellorship, says Angela Merkel

Berlin [Germany], December 31: In her customary New Year's location to the country, German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday depicted 2020 the hardest year of her chancellorship. 

"I don't think I am overstating when I state: Never previously, over the most recent 15 years, was a year harder than the one that is simply arriving at its end," Merkel stated, Deutsche Welle cited the Chancellor as saying. 

Among other huge nations in Europe, Germany has faired well in managing the pandemic, in front of France, United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. As per Johns Hopkins University, Germany has distinguished more than 1.7 million cases and 32,000 fatalities. 

"The Covid pandemic was and is the political, social and financial test of the century," said Merkel, adding that "It is a memorable emergency that has requested a ton from us all - and a lot of a few." 

Emphasizing her stand, the German Chancellor said that she would be inoculated against the Covid when the ball was in her court. As opposed to nations like the US, Germany didn't consider top-level legislators as a part of the first to get the antibody, DW revealed.
